Hey darkfrog,

I just joined a company in Oakland developing automation control software for controlling equipment like conference rooms, lighting, projectors, etc. Currently our application has two different clients, one web based using flex and the other for a IP phone. I'm not at all familiar with the IP phone, but when I heard that they had to manage two different codebases for the UI, I immediately though of jSeamless.

So I pose this question... How involved is it to make a client implementation for an IP phone?

Actually it would very likely be extremely easy apart from one little problem...I don't currently have microphone support.  It shouldn't be too difficult to add and I've been intending to add it, but nobody ever needed it until now. Shocked

You might bring the idea to them and feel free to contact me if they're interested in doing a support contract to move forward.  jSeamless is open-source and free to use, but companies that are interested in having elite support and additional features added based on their needs often find support contracts a really good way to go.  Either way I will try to get microphone support in soon, but obviously some work takes priority over others. I was just asking them about our client implementation. The IP Phone has its own xml based system for defining a gui, similar to flex I guess. But they also indicated that the newer phones have support for j2me. How does that play in? Easier/Sooner?

Also, what exactly do you mean by microphone support? Being able to manage audio input through jSeamless? Our app has no need to use the microphone for anything, if that makes any difference.

I'm going to talk to some people and see if they are up for looking at a new approach. I really just started last week, so it may be a while before I work up the influence for these kind of descisions. Also, when I better understand our application I will also be able to see where jSeamless will give us the greatest advantage. Anyway, keep it up. I'm looking forward to this new website your putting up.

Oh, sorry, I misunderstood your original idea.  I thought you were saying they wanted to create an IP phone using jSeamless. Smiley  It doesn't sound like a big deal, and I agree jSeamless would be useful here.  It always amazes me all the duplication of work that companies just let happen without asking why they have to re-write nearly the same thing multiple times.

Yeah, the IP Phone has its own xml based system for defining a gui...
